Hello there!
I am Vighnesh M. Peters, independent filmmaker.
Since 2001 I have produced various multimedia projects with my
company ‘Vighnesh Maharaj Productions’ (VMP), including many well received films, documentaries and soundtracks.
Due to many requests I have started this blog.
In the coming time I shall take you into the journey of modern (independent) filmmaking and the great challenges that comes with it.
Since this is a filmmaking blog, I start with the ultimate dream of a filmmaker: getting an ‘Oscar’.
Something to look forward to.
Whatever you do in your life, it’s great to have a goal towards you work.
If you are a filmmaker, receiving an Oscar would surely be one of them!
So what is an ‘Oscar’?
As you may already know the Oscar itself is a nice little shiny statue, yes the one I am holding on the photo.
But the main importance is not the statue itself, but rather the reason ‘‘why’ and ‘How’ you get it. If you get the Oscar It’s an instant worldwide recognition and a statement that you are a good filmmaker. Or that you are good at one of the filmmaking process that help make the final film.
The award is handed at a great annual celebrative event that is broadcasted and witnessed worldwide through the media.
So how do you get an Oscar?
Yes, there we have the big question.
Suppose you are a filmmaker and you really, really would like to ‘win’ an Oscar, then the worst question you could ask yourself is ‘‘How do I get an Oscar?’’.
An Oscar for a film or a film for an Oscar?
As I said before the Oscar is an award, a recognition of something that you ‘did’ an appreciation for your ‘work’, not for your desire to win an ‘Oscar’.
Films that touch you.
If you are a good filmmaker you are a good storyteller.
If you are a good storyteller then you are able to ‘touch’ the viewers.
Note that the Oscar doesn’t choose you, the people behind the Oscar does.
So if you can touch their heart the rest will follow.
‘The only boundary is your own imagination’.
I consider film the ultimate form of art.
It gives me the freedom to express whatever I imagine without any
boundary. Thus the title was used in one of my newspaper article:
‘The only boundary is my own imagination’.
The combination of powerful music and imagery
can really touch the audience through their different perspective
senses. This way of storytelling can give the audience a beautiful
emotional experience.
So how do you make a touching film?
Should you have millions of dollars, the most expensive tools?
No!
Almost anyone can do it and I shall tell you how!
Stay tuned for my next blog - ‘Beyond filmmaking’
